The Stars Come Out for the British Curry Awards!
It is the time of the year when awards are given out and the British curry industry is no exception.
Comedian and impressionist Jon Clegg hosted the event and the stars came out in force to support it. Amongst those attending were comedian Russell Brand, ex-international footballer David Seaman, comedian Hardeep Kohli, TV personalities Kirsten O’Brien, Nina Myskow and Pat Sharp, MPs Sir Vince Cable, Chris Grayling, Brandon Lewis and Baroness Verma, singer Patti Boulaye, DJ Neev Spencer and a clutch of The Apprentice contestants.
A total of twelve awards were announced, with regional winners from across the UK. The Best Newcomer Award went to Dishoom in Edinburgh while Chili Tuk Tuk of London N12 collected the Best Takeaway Award.
A Special Recognition Award went to Chef Rezual Karim from Stockholm.
The Asian catering industry is valued at approximately £5 billion. Nevertheless the industry has witnessed a sharp downturn in the last year. This decline has largely been attributed to the shortage of skilled workers in the hospitality sector, from a lack of qualified chefs all the way through to front of house staff.
